About
Yoel and Adel Ben David were both raised to be connected to their Jewish heritage. Yoel was born in Israel and raised in the Caribbean, England, and Paris. Yoel’s father is Scottish and his mother is a Moroccan Jewish woman who takes her Jewish identity seriously. Adel grew up in Berlin, Germany in a secular Latvian/Russian family that had a strong Jewish identity and observed the Jewish festivals. Between Yoel and Adel, they are fluent in five different languages.
Adel and Yoel met in their Hebrew language school when they were 19 years old and had both moved to Israel. They were married shortly after. During that time in their lives, they were both searching for spiritual truth. They decided that if they believed in God, they were being hypocritical if they didn’t do something about their Judaism. They became invested in Jewish mysticism through the Hasidic Breslov movement but felt that, despite their best efforts, they were constantly disappointed. Their continued search led them to a follower of Jesus who invited them to read and discuss the Tanak (the “Old Testament”). After several months, they both had life-changing experiences that convinced them that Yeshua (“Jesus”) was the Messiah.
Adel and Yoel felt compelled to dedicate their lives to telling the Jewish people about Yeshua. They have both joined the staff of Jews for Jesus and have served with them all over the world, along with their four children. Today they live on the border between East and West Jerusalem. They have a great community of fellow Jewish believers in Jesus who live in close proximity. Their passion is to see a vibrant community of committed followers of Yeshua spring up there, and they are grateful that they can work toward that goal together.
