NUBF's Statement of Faith

  1. We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God; without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation of men, and the Divine and final authority of all Christian faith and life.

(Deuteronomy 4:2, Matthew 5:18, II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:20-21)

  1. We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

(Matthew 28:18-19, John 17:5, Romans 1:20, 1 John 5:7-3)

  1. We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Advocate.

(Luke 1:34-35, Romans 5:8, Galatians 3:13, Hebrews 2:9, 1 John 2:2)

  1. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

(John 15:26, John 16:7-14, Romans 8:9-17, Romans 8:26-27, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 14)

  1. We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost. Only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

(Genesis 1:26-27, John 3:3, Romans 5:12, John 5:24, Ephesians 2:1-3, Titus 3:5)

  1. We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God.

(John 1:12, Romans 3:28, 4:23-25, 5:7-9, 10:9, Galatians 4:6-7, Hebrews 9:22)

  1. We believe that the Lord’s Supper and Water Baptism are ordinances to be observed by the Church during this age. However, they are not to be regarded as means of salvation.

(I Corinthians 11:23-25, Matthew 28:19, 26:26-29, Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5-7)

  1. We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is the Head.

(Romans 12:4-5,1 Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22, 4:4-6)

  1. We believe in the personal, pre-millennial, and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this “blessed hope” has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

(John 14:1-3, Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Philippians 3:20-21)

  1. We believe that the souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation do at death immediately pass into His presence, and there remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection of the body at His coming, when soul and body reunited shall be with Him forever in glory.

(Psalm 73:24, Luke 16:22, 25, 23:43, II Corinthians 5:8,1 Thessalonians, 4:15-18, Philippians 1:20-24,

1 Corinthians 15)

  1. We believe that the souls of the lost remain after death in misery until the final judgment at the great white throne, when the soul and body, re-united at the resurrection, shall be cast “into the lake of fire” which is “the second death”, to be “punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power”.

(Luke 16:22-23, 27-28, II Thessalonians 1:8-9, Hebrews 9:27, Revelation 20:11-15)

  1. We believe in the reality and personality of Satan, “that old serpent, called the Devil”.

(Ephesians 6:11-12, 1 Peter 5:8, Revelation 12:9, 20:10)

  1. We believe in eternal security for the believer.

(John 5:24, 6:37, 10:28, Philippians 1:6, 1 John 5:13)
