Sara & Josh Jenkins – September Update
by Alex
It’s always exciting to see just who God will introduce you to!
Fall semester has been up and running at San Diego State for just two weeks now. That’s 8 days of Challenge students and staff getting on campus during move-in and classes and club fair expo. I just did some math… between everyone volunteering to help with outreach and tabling we’ve put in (a conservative estimate) of 180 hours handing out flyers, conducting 30-second surveys and spiritual surveys. And we’re not done yet! We’ll be back out again tomorrow, and next Tuesday and Wednesday. Here’s a quick break-down of what’s been happening so far
- of the hundreds of people we met and talked with, over 260 expressed interest and gave us their number
- from spiritual surveys, Gospel Appointments, and just regular conversations we had over 35 opportunities to personally proclaim the gospel message of salvation in Jesus through faith alone by grace alone. (fun fact! that 35 includes students from Canada, Japan, Spain, and Chile)
- We’ve handed out 2,500 flyers
- The first two Challenge large-group meetings were packed-out! 60 chairs were not enough, students had to sit along the edge of the room and stand in the back.
- Del Cerro Baptist and Mission Trails Church both supported our on-campus efforts in huge and encouraging ways, with pastors Dustin and Dustin from Del Cerro pounding the pavement and helping with outreach, and pastor Kyle from MTC preparing and sharing a super impactful message on Freedom in Christ at the large group meeting this week
- So far we’ve consumed 19 Costco pizzas
- I personally drank over 10 gallons of coffee.(hahaha ok that’s a joke….who’s counting anyway!)
Prayer points
The best is yet to come as we pray, text, and follow-up with students to see who God is drawing towards Himself and who we will have the privilege of walking alongside.
- refreshment for students and staff through time with Jesus~ may we be filled-up in Him first, then work out of an overflow
- pray for all of the interested contacts, that they would respond to texts and be open to getting connected (to Challenge, and to God!)
- For the new students who heard a clear gospel presentation at the large group last week and this week, for the seed of gospel to take root in their hearts
- for new and fringe students to get connected at one of our partner churches
- special prayers for our director, Kevin and his wife Dana! She is due to have their third child in a week, so it’s a touch-and-go time of waiting for little Dawson to make his appearance, as well as managing the household and ministry during a busy season.
- for Josh and I as we balance work and rest in this strategic “harvest season”
Thanks for reading, and more importantly, praying with us and for us. May you be encouraged and strengthened in your walk with Jesus today.
Grace and peace,
Josh and Sara Jenkins
